ON THE COVER

Ever radiant VJ and model Paula Taylor is gleaming in colorful and eclectic resort wear, especially tailored by hip local retail brand Plains and Prints.

After a long day of shooting, international VJ and model Paula Taylor is still up for an interview. She greets me with the same enthusiasm and warmth of one who had just had just started her day afresh. Having noticed her almost contagious energy level and a sincere smile that doesn’t seem to tire, I couldn’t help but ask how she’s not at all affected by her hectic work schedule. “I just try to be myself all the time. I guess that’s why it becomes so easy because I’m having fun all the time.”

Australia Day 2009: Interview with Advocates
MS. PAULA TAYLOR
MODEL, BUSINESSWOMAN

1. What is your relationship to Australia, including education, work or any other relevant aspects?

Australia is like my home country, although I was not born there. I grew up there for 18 years and I now hold Australian nationality.

2. What are your main impressions of Australia? What is unique to Australia for you?

I really love Australia. I am very proud that Australia is loved by people around the world. I always hear that Australia is a country that many people want to visit or live in. I’ve never heard bad things about Australia.

What is unique to Australia, in my view, is that it is a country where people are always chilled and happy. Australians are very famous for being friendly.

3. What similarities do you think Australia shares with Thailand?

I think the people of our two countries are similar. We are always in a good mood. People are lovely. I recently heard about a survey conducted by Conde Nast Traveller magazine, and I was very proud that people voted Australia the top and Thailand the second favourite destination for travellers. I was so happy because both Australia and Thailand are my home countries. So we both win!

“So what do you wanna know?”, she asks smiling, in between chews …

I’m pressed for time; she needs to get going in exactly 45 minutes if she’s gonna catch her flight back to Bangkok.

I think back to the time when I first meet her, just several months ago. Punlapa Margaret Taylor was fresh off the second season of that globetrotting exercise in duo dynamics, “The Amazing Race Asia”, which she ran with childhood friend Natasha Monks. Since then, she’s constantly been on the radar of every fashion magazine, all those internet websites and forums devoted to Asian celebrities, and even brands that need a fresh, unsullied face to hawk their wares. She certainly fits the bill; at 25 years old, the Aussie-born***, half-Thai, half-British chippy may have stolen hearts while she was covered in sweat and grime during the grueling race, but she’s charming the pants off more people as a free-spirited model-slash-actress crisscrossing the region, depending on her own whims and fancies. She could be complaining about the disappearing beach and the uncooperative sun in Boracay here in the Philippines one minute and dashing off back to Thailand for a marathon 22-hour shoot for a new TV sitcom the next.

Forty-four minutes. so what have you been up to? I finally ask. (more…)

Paula entered the race together with childhood friend Natasha Monks and managed to finish fifth place out of 10. Even without the $100,000 grand prize, the 5′5″, 99-lb Paula was just happy to be given the opportunity to showcase her athletic and competitive side. (more…)

Paula Eyes The Boy Next Door

Hot 25-year-old VJ and model Paula Taylor is one of the most popular cover girls in the kingdom. The charismatic star charms audiences with her lovely smile and vibrant personality.

Paula recently took the lead role in a romantic sitcom called Nuea Khu Pratoo Thad Pai (Love Next Door). Co-staring in the show is attractive 26-year-old DJ and TV host Thanakorn Chinakul (DJ Beau).

Produced by comedian Opal Panisara, Love Next Door is about wannabe actress Kwanjai (Paula), who is looking for love. A fortune teller predicts that Kwanjai will find her soul mate living next door. Khun Wee (DJ Beau) is one of Kwanjai’s neighbours. He’s a real gentleman, but unfortunately he’s also an unfashionable geek.

Student Weekly recently met with the two young stars to talk about their first sitcom and how their characters relate to their real life experiences.

STUDENT WEEKLY: What got you guys interested in Love Next Door?

Paula: When I read the script, I couldn’t put it down. I couldn’t stop laughing and smiling as I read it. I like smart humour.

Beau: I like anything that’s fun. I used to work with Opal Panisara at a radio station. She’s always good fun, so I knew that working on this sitcom would be a great experience. (more…)

PAULA IS STILL THE REIGNING CUTIE
TV INSIDE MAGAZINE (Thailand)
TRANSLATED BY FANATICSTARS
DATE PUBLISHED: NOV 2008 ISSUE

Just chose some interesting parts from Paula Taylor’s interview with the latest TV Inside magazine.

You’ve come to take back the title of ‘Queen of Presenter’ from Pancake and Aff (Taksaorn)?

Paula: “Not really. One person can’t accept everything. I have some that are mine, they have theirs. I accept this commercial, they accept a different one. We can’t film the same one anyways. I’m not asking for the title back. There’s nothing. They have a lot, I have mine. It’s not connected.”

You’re still going international on a regular basis?

Paula: “Yes. I’m going to go film a commercial in the Phillipines soon. This will be my fourth. Support from over there has been very good. It’s hard to believe. Even though I’m not Filipino, but I’ve still gotten to be on the cover of a Filipino magazine. It’s a big magazine… ‘10 people you should keep an eye on’ in their country. I’m not Filipino, but they still put me on the magazine. It felt strange, but good. They support me. Mostly, I film commercials and model sometimes.” (more…)

MANILA, Philippines - To this day, I still wake up and say, “OMG, I went to Africa.”

We met up with the Asia To Africa reps in Singapore to customize our I-cant-believe-we’re-going-to-Africa-on-a-safari trip. We felt completely at ease about the country the reps recommended for us—Zambia!

Why Zambia? Because we wanted to experience the real Africa. We could’ve easily asked for the big, popular game reserves in Kenya or South Africa, where you mingled with other flamboyantly dressed tourists. But we wanted sparse, isolated—“Spartan”—Africa. We had no idea. (more…)

It’s the start of the ‘ber months but it’s still scorching hot. Not such a good time for a shoot today, we think, but then in walks Paula Taylor and all thoughts of locking ourselves in a room with the air-conditioning at full blast vanished from our minds. Miss Sunshine, as everyone calls her, took our hearts away with her pretty smile and very bubbly, down-to-earth attitude.

Talking to her was such a delight. She was sharing with us her favorite books and coaxing us to check out her recommended reads. She’s really a great friend to have and we’re glad she’s part of our circle…Ooops, we almost forgot-we just met her! But can you blame us if we feel so at ease with her? (more…)
