VIC SOTTO DENIES WOOING THAI ACTRESS
ABS-CBN ENTERTAINMENT
www.abs-cbnnews.com

Prince of Comedy Vic Sotto has rebuffed speculation that he was wooing Thai video jock and actress Paula Taylor.

Sotto denied the rumor during the press conference of his latest film LOL (Love On Line), with Taylor as his on-screen partner. He also belied rumor that his girlfriend, actress-host Pia Guanio, was jealous of Taylor.

“That’s not true. I’m not the type of producer and actor who will resort to a gimmick like that. Pia has nothing to be jealous about and she’s not the type who would get jealous with a leading lady,” Sotto told SNN

Sotto admitted that he, along with the rest of the crew, merely looked after the Thai actress and took care of her during shootings since she is still new here.

Taylor, on the other hand, echoed Sottos denial. “Probably on scene but nothing off screen.”

The new star also assured Guanio that she has nothing to worry about because she and Sotto are just friends.

Model-actress Paula Taylor captivated the members of the entertainment press with her refreshing beauty and unassuming demeanor.

At the press conference of Vic Sotto’s upcoming movie, Love OnLine (LOL), held at the Moomba Bar and Café in Quezon City, the Thai-British stunner described her leading man as “charming” and a true “gentleman.”

“Bossing is like the nicest guy who’s funny. He makes it light, like on the set, we’re always laughing and there’s never really a dull moment. Generally, if it’s your first time doing anything you’ll be like, ‘Oh my God how is it gonna be?’ But you know what, he made it like so fun and not bad. I lost all my intimidations and it was great. I was very lucky to work with him,” said Paula, who prior to Love OnLine has done numerous local ads for television and print.

Paula—whose real name is Punlapa Margaret Taylor—was born in Bangkok, Thailand on January 20, 1983 to a Thai mother and a British father. She spent most of her growing-up years in Perth, Australia before traveling to other places to work as a model and actress.

Serving as VJ for Channel V Thailand opened a lot of opportunities for Paula. Together with good friend Natasha Monks, Paula joined the popular but physically demanding reality search program, Amazing Race Asia 2.

She recently finished her Hollywood film debut in the supernatural thriller Shadows, opposite Academy Award winning actor William Hurt.

BUSY AND LOVELESS. With a flourishing career in acting and modeling, Paula explained why she remains loveless at the moment.

“I think it’s probably because if you’re working a lot it’s pretty hard to have a relationship, especially coz I’m traveling a lot. I’m traveling Bangkok-Philippines, Bangkok-Philippines, I’m like flying from all over the place. Maybe I’ll put that [romance] as part of my Christmas wish list,” she smiled.

Paula may seem shy but behind her cherubic face and slight frame is a young woman who’s thirsty for life’s adventures.

“I just want to accomplish much in life. I just wanna have new experiences, I wanna meet new people and do new things. You only live once [and] you have to do as much as you can.”

In the past, Paula has been linked to Manila-based Australian model Marc Nelson. Paula stressed, however, that her fellow Amazing Race participant is just a good friend who happens to be a trusted companion every time she’s here in Manila for a vacation or assignment.

Would it be possible for her to fall for Vic Sotto? Paula simply replied, “It’s always possible. Love has no rules right?”

She added, “He has a great sense of humor, he’s very charming and he’s a gentleman. All girls like that.”

Vic has only good words for the 26-year-old stunner. “She’s a very good actress and she blends well with everyone. Not only me but with the cast, staff, crew, director down to the utility boys. She’s really fun to work with.”

Produced by OctoArts Films, M-ZET TV and APT Entertainment, Love OnLine (LOL) will open in cinemas nationwide starting August 19.

The decision to pair Thai-British Paula Taylor with Vic Sotto has completely nothing to do with the latter’s alleged preference to work with foreign beauties.

“The story requires a foreigner and Paula perfectly fits the role,” Vic candidly told the entertainment press last July 21 at the Moomba Bar and Café in Quezon City.

“And we made a good choice because she’s very easy to work with, she’s not finicky and Paula can be mistaken as Pinay also. It’s been fun working with her. No problems on the set.”

And the end result of that good chemistry is OctoArts Films, M-Zet TV and APT Entertainment’s latest romantic comedy aptly titled, Love OnLine (LOL).

LOL is a modern comedy featuring the story of Samson (Vic) and Lily (Paula)—two individuals with different cultural backgrounds who managed to forge a connection through the Internet. What follows is one wacky ride spiced with magic, adventure, fantasy and love for the two bi-racial characters.

CYBER LOVE. Director Tony Reyes explained that Vic originally had a concept revolving around the popular cyberspace communication practice called “online chat.” The idea of presenting two individuals with different cultural backgrounds and eventually falling in love with each other intrigued Vic no end.

With the concept firmly plotted, Vic and his team proceeded to look for a suitable leading lady. Looking for a local actress was totally out of the equation, which eventually led them to stumble upon Paula, who at the time was already an established television and print ad model with acting experience to boot.

Adjusting to the Philippines was not entirely hard for Paula as she already appeared in countless local ads like Kenny Rogers Roasters, Plains and Prints, and Myra-E to name a few.

Vic said: “Paula’s not really new to the Filipinos and the Philippines. She already appeared in commercials, print ads, billboards and she’s a frequent visitor here, so the Philippines isn’t entirely new to her. So she never had a hard time adjusting on how we work here, how Filipinos are and as far as acting it’s nothing new to her she’s a very popular actress back in Thailand.”

The chemistry between Vic and Paula was very evident on screen, which in a way delivers the film’s main message of love having no barriers regardless of geography and social background.

Love OnLine also stars Jose Manalo, Manilyn Reynes, Matt Evans, Melissa Ricks, Dominic Roco, Gina Pareno, Ricky Davao, and Leo Martinez.

BOSSING’S NEW LEADING LADY
PHILIPPINE DAILY INQUIRER

DATE POSTED: 10 JULY 2009

MANILA, Philippines — There’s not a drop of Pinoy blood in his new leading lady’s veins, but Vic Sotto says that Thai-Australian model-veejay-actress Paula Taylor felt right at home on the set of the new romantic comedy, Tony Y. Reyes’ “Love On Line (LOL).”

Taylor reportedly hit it off with the cast and crew and would often join them, feasting on local delicacies.

She has a healthy appetite, Bossing said of his new leading lady, and isn’t finicky at all.

“She likes sisig and even tried dinuguan,” Sotto recalled. “I asked her: Do you want to know the ingredients of dinuguan? She just smiled and answered: ‘I don’t want to know.’ Cowboy siya.”

Taylor also loves sinigang, which is similar to the Thai soup Tom Yum Koong, she explained.

Told she could pass for a Filipina, she responded swiftly. “Salamat po.”

She has picked up a whole slew of Tagalog words of late — like “Mainit dito (It’s hot here).”

Once, co-star Leo Martinez, who plays her uncle in “LOL,” taught her a cuss word in Filipino — telling her it meant “hot” instead.

“I was saying it all day. When I asked a friend about it, I learned it was a bad word,” she told Inquirer Entertainment.

Still, she has adjusted quite nicely in the country.

“I’ve been spending a lot of time in Manila. Last year, I was here every month. I’m almost a local now,” she quipped.

Meeting Enteng

It was her first time to meet “Bossing” (Sotto) though. “But I watched videos of his old movies (like the ‘Enteng Kabisote’ series) on YouTube.”

Sotto, for his part, caught her stint on “Amazing Race Asia” and is familiar with her work as veejay for Channel [V] and as model for various local companies.

“But I only learned recently that she has a sitcom in Thailand (“True Love Next Door”) and that she starred in four movies there,” Sotto said.

Taylor has nothing but kind words for her leading man. “He’s very charming. He takes care of his co-stars. He’s pretty down-to-earth in spite of his stature.”

Apart from being a big star in Thailand, Taylor has also done “a small, low-budget Hollywood film,” titled “Shadows” with William Hurt and Cary Elwes.

She was initially daunted by the prospect of meeting Oscar winner Hurt. “But he was very friendly. We didn’t have lots of scenes, but we were together in the workshops. I learned a lot about technique just by watching him.”

She said that she got to spend more time with Elwes who plays her partner in the supernatural drama directed by John Penney.

“He’s sweet and fun. I told him I watched his movie ‘The Princess Bride’ more than once. He said it was his favorite as well.”

She even bragged to her dad: “Remember the guy in ‘Princess Bride’? He’s my husband now!”

PAULA TAYLOR SAYS VIC SOTTO KNOWS HOW TO TREAT HIS CO-STAR

PEP was amused on how Paula Taylor responds to our questions like “How is she related to Elizabeth Taylor?” she jokingly answered “She’s my long lost cousin”.

PEP believes what Vic Sotto said that Paula eats anything and everything, as we witness it during the interview for their movie LOL (Love On Line), she ate everything that being served. Just after learning the names of Filipino dishes like pansit(a dish of noodles), lumpia (meat wrapped in thin crepe), ginataang halo-halo (mixed fruits in sweet coconut milk) and one variety of rice cake, she just ate and laughs as the press makes fun of her and says “she’s not hungry”.

Vic also mentioned that she eats sisig and (soury-greasy-spicy pork meat) dinuguan (a dish of blood stew) but Paula rather not know what it is made of. The only thing that Paula would not eat is balut (duck eggs), as she is still traumatized in one of her Amazing Race experience, as the first part that she ate during this task is the beak of the baby duck. Her favorite Filipino dish is sinigang (a stew of meat/fish/seafood and vegetables in a sour broth).

“I’ve been coming here for a long time now for work, I love it here and I know a little bit of Tagalog. I know, mainit (hot), sobrang mainit (so hot: as it refer to the weather condition). Earlier, Leo Martinez taught me tang-na ang init-init (f*ck it’s so hot: as it refer to the weather condition). I sent it to my friends and they told me its bad words. I didn’t know. Ha-ha-ha!”

Paula is doing a film with Vic with director Tony Reyes. The 26-year old international model/TV and movie star is honored when she learned that Vic asked his staff to find her to be his leading lady. Vic believes that her role in the movie as a foreigner and as his love interest would really suit her. Paula was in Thailand when she learned about the offer. Upon approving it, her agents in Manila accepted the offer on her behalf. Paula assures the press that she will help in the promotion of their movie and will be here as the movie opens on August 19.

Paula Taylor is the familiar face we see on several television and print advertisements for Myra-E, Plains and Prints, Rebisco Whole Wheat Crackers, Kenny Rogers Roasters and Colgate. Taylor has her own weekly TV sitcom and starred in numerous films, including her first Hollywood role in Shadows, opposite William Hurt.

“I was scared at first when I learned I’ll be working with William Hurt, but he was very friendly, a very nice guy and there’s no reason for me to be intimidated. I played wife to Cary Elwes,” as she tells.

How about working with Vic Sotto?

“It’s a nice experience because he is nice considering he’s like a superstar. He’s down-to-earth and he keeps me alive.”

The press warns Paula about how Vic is known for in using his charm with his leading ladies and Paula agrees to this statement about her leading man.

“He’s very charming in the sense that he looks after his co-star.”

Paula also shares that they send her copies of movie videos and pictures of Vic, so that she would have a general idea who will be her leading man. Though, she do not know where Vic first saw her, until she just learned that somebody suggested her name to him and Vic later approved it and asked his staff to look for her to send a formal offer for the said film.

Paula is being cagey in terms of her love life. She didn’t confirm nor denies with her rumor relationship with Marc Nelson.

So, how’s Marc? “He’s good.”

How are they being together? “We’re good. Every time I got an offer, I always called him and asked for his suggestion. We’re okay,” as she simply said.

Capital is very tight in my loved ones right now so numerous extras can be found eliminated from our budget. The 1st thing to go was our cell phone plan and cable wasn’t far behind. At initial I thought this would be a huge issue as my husband likes to watch sitcom re-runs. Yet, this hasn’t been a trouble as he is capable to Watch Missed Episodes. too as other favorites of his. I’m glad he discovered these as I do not want him to lose everything he loves. Thankfully, I am able to write part of our Internet fees off for my work so we didn’t have to get rid of that also. I think that would are the final straw for him.
