HUGH Jackman, Kylie Minogue, Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman - Australians love to boast of our expat success stories.

We even claim Russell Crowe and Neil Finn as our own.

But what of those Aussies we’ve never heard of who have made it big overseas?

Insider has gathered a list of Australians who have excelled around the world yet remain relatively unknown on home soil.

Meet Australia’s biggest unknown stars.

Among them is Perth model, TV presenter and actress Paula Taylor. She’s a superstar in Thailand but few in Australia have ever heard of her, apart from family and friends.

Taylor has her own weekly TV sitcom, is a music TV presenter and has also starred in numerous films, including her first Hollywood role in Shadows, opposite William Hurt.

She has appeared on the cover of countless magazines and lent her face to campaigns for such brands as Colgate, Sunsilk shampoo, Canon, Wrigley, Lux and Honda.

“I’ve never done anything in Australia,” Taylor said from the set of her latest film LOL (Love Online) in the Philippines capital of Manila.

“Asia is my playground, I guess. Opportunities have always just come up for me here.”

When this Insider met Taylor on a recent holiday to Phuket, she was recognised everywhere we went. A trip to a local market saw her swamped by locals keen for a photo or autograph.

Taylor, who has a Thai mother and an English father, moved to Thailand in 2001 to pursue modeling after finishing Year 12. Based in Bangkok, she is known throughout Asia through ads and her 2007 appearance on the reality series The Amazing Race Asia.

She would love to work in Australia, but is not sure she could find work here.

“Australians like their blondes. There’s not that many roles for Eurasians. I’d like to change that,” she said.
