Background

Stellar artists is led by Paula Taylor, one of Thailand’s leading models and actors. In 2010 she established a reputable artist management company and modelling agency whose aim was to guide the next generation of stars and help them benefit from her wealth of experience.

Challenge

Led by a star with the calibre of Paula and known for its professionalism, Stellar’s brand awareness and reputation was in good standing, but its identity did not reflect this solid reputation. With a wealth of agencies all vying for new talent and clients, Stellar Artists knew it needed more to be able to outshine its competitors and succeed.

Outcome

Working closely with Paula herself, Brand New Day crafted the brand identity using an approach that evolved the original identity into one more suited to its reputation in the current market. This new, more modern interpretation of the original identity successfully positioned Stellar Artists as the leading artist management agency in Thailand.

Just five minutes into a conversation with Paula Taylor and one would immediately feel at ease. The English-Thai actress, model and style icon possesses friendliness, charm and humor in abundance, capturing the heart of every person she meets—from Bangkok, Thailand (where she resides with her family), to even here in the Philippines where her popularity is steadily growing, with several major endorsements and even a starring movie role opposite Vic Sotto himself already under her belt.

The same five minutes are also enough to understand why fashionable women’s work wear brand Plains & Prints handpicked Paula to be its muse in 2008. Paula, who grew up in Australia, did not initially have plans on entering the entertainment industry; to put it simply, it was the industry that found her. She began with modeling stints in Thailand after being ‘discovered’ while walking around at a shopping center, and the rest, as they say, is history.

One thing led to another, and Paula soon found herself being tapped to appear in commercials and music videos, which eventually paved her way into acting, nabbing roles for television sitcoms and even movies. Her successful stints in Thailand catapulted her to fame, and her warm persona earned her the moniker ‘everyone’s favorite girl next door’.

Since then, Paula has landed endorsements and roles in Hong Kong, the Philippines and even Hollywood (debuting in 2010 film Shadows), proof that her popularity continues to rise. She is most fondly remembered as one of the contestants of The Amazing Race Asia 2, where she finished 5th with her partner. Today, she currently stars in Thai TV series True Love Next Door, is a regular VJ for Channel V Thailand and, of course, is Plains & Prints’ very own muse.

All these accomplishments make her the perfect muse for the local womenswear brand, which targets upwardly mobile working women, and this is all the more reinforced by the recent changes in Paula’s life. She married Anglo-Chinese businessman Edward Buttery in 2010, and gave birth last year to a beautiful baby daughter named Lyla Jane.

Paula Taylor has always been a darling of the entertainment world. She first entered the public domain with the Thai romantic comedy Sexphone and the Lonely Wave when she was 20 years old. From then on her career took off like a shooting star. She became a popular VJ on Channel [V] and a competitor in the TV reality show Amazing Race.

Readers of Seventeen Thailand handed her the Teen Choice Award for five consecutive years and she was one of only three Thai nationals to ever grace the cover of that magazine.

Paula disappeared from the scene for a while after her wedding to Hong Kong shipping heir Edward Buttery. The couple now have a baby, Lyla, a bubbly, blue-eyed, one-year-old star in the making _ just like Mummy.

But now Paul regularly shuttles between Singapore, where her husband is based, and Bangkok where she’s slipping back into a packed schedule, almost as if she’d never left.

And just to make sure fans are able to keep abreast of developments in her life and the progress of little Lyla, she has set up a website called www.paulaandbaby.com, where she regularly uploads pictures, video clips, blogs on her activities, her views on anything to do with bringing up babies, shopping for babies, travelling with babies, etc. She is essentially sharing her learning experiences as a first-time mother, as well as all the other girlie things like shopping, fashion and diet tips.

The online diary has also allowed her to indulge again in something she has always enjoyed: “Writing used to be something I did with a passion. Short stories, poems _ the works! Putting pen to paper and letting my imagination run wild was an escape for me into a world of my own.

“I remember when I was 16 how I was given an interesting assignment and my mind went wild with ideas. Eagerly I picked up my pen … and that was it.”

She somehow manages to keep her blog updated in between doing advertising or fashion-photo shoots and fulfilling her responsibilities as a wife and mother (luckily her husband takes care of all the cooking at home!).

Her website is available in four languages: English, Thai, Chinese and Tagalog (she has a huge fan base in the Philippines).

And as if she doesn’t have enough to do already, Paula is also planning to get involved in a couple of films and TV series.

“ตื่นเต้นมาก คุณแม่ตื่นเต้นกว่าอีก (หัวเราะ) โดยเฉพาะเรื่องการเตรียมชุดให้น้องไลลาค่ะ ส่วนมากทุกคนจะหาชุดให้ตัวเองสวยที่สุด แต่พอลล่าไม่เลย ชุดตัวเองใส่อะไรก็ได้ ส่งมาเลย แต่จะกังวลเรื่องชุดของน้องมากกว่าว่าเขาจะใส่อะไรดี งานวันนี้เราก็ไม่ได้บอกอะไรน้องมากมายว่าจะพาออกงาน แต่พอมาถึงเขาก็โอเคไม่กลัวคนเลย กลับยิ้มสู้กล้อง เพราะเขาเจอคนเยอะแบบนี้ตั้งแต่เด็กแล้ว เลยไม่กลัว อย่างวันนี้นานา(นานา ไรบีนา)ก็มาให้กำลังใจด้วย เรียกว่าทุกคนหลงน่าดูกับหลานสาวคนนี้ อย่างพี่วิลลี่ก็แอบแซวว่าจะจองไว้ให้น้องวิน เราก็เลยบอกว่า เข้าแถวค่ะพี่”

“วันนี้ก็พาน้องมารับทรัพย์ ประมาณนั้นค่ะ หาค่านมค่ะ ไปซื้อนม (หัวเราะ) ส่วนที่บอกกันว่าพอลล่าได้ค่าตัว 7 หลัก ไม่จริงเลยค่ะ ถ้าได้ถึง 7 หลัก คงดีใจมากเลย ก็รับเท่าเรทปกติค่ะ ไม่ได้เพิ่มอะไรพิเศษมากมายหรอก ถึงจะแพคคู่ก็เรทเท่าปกติค่ะ ทางเอ็ดเวิร์ด (สามี) เขาก็รู้สึกตื่นเต้นก็อยากมามาก แต่ว่าเขาติดทำงานที่สิงคโปร์ เอ็ดเวิร์ดก็คิดถึงตลอดค่ะ ส่วนใหญ่น้องไลลาจะอยู่กับแม่ค่ะ แม่อยู่ไหนน้องอยู่นั่น ก็มีบ่นว่าไม่เจอกันเลย แต่วันนี้ก็พาน้องบินกลับสิงคโปร์แล้ว และจะบินกลับมาอีก 2 อาทิตย์”

“เอ็ดเวิร์ดเขาแค่อยากให้เราเลือกงานที่ดีที่สุด นี่เราก็เลือกแล้ว งานที่เหมาะกับน้องค่ะ ส่วนงานโฆษณาตอนนี้ ก็มีทาบทามอยู่เรื่อยๆ ค่ะ ตอนนี้น้องเขาเป็นพรีเซ็นเตอร์ให้กับสินค้ายี่ห้อหนึ่ง แล้วก็มีอีกชิ้นหนึ่งที่กำลังจะออกเร็วๆ นี้”

แย็บถามว่าจะเป็นเจ๊ดันให้ลูกสาวเข้าวงการหรือเปล่า? เจ้าตัวก็บอกว่า ในความเป็นแม่ก็ถือว่าทำได้

“ถือว่าจะพาเข้าวงการหรือเปล่า เขาก็ดูเอนจอย ดูแฮปปี้นะ เขาก็สนุกนะ ก็ถือว่าทำได้นะคะในฐานะที่เราเป็นคุณแม่ ก็ตื่นเต้น ก็เป็นเหมือนความภาคภูมิใจนะ ที่หลายคนชื่นชมน้องไลลา เป็นความสุข เห็นเขายิ้ม ถ่ายรูปน่ารัก เราก็ชอบ และเร็วๆ นี้ก็จะมีถ่ายแฟนชั่นคู่กับน้องไลลาด้วย อยากให้รอดูกันค่ะ”

“แต่จะมีงานคู่กันกับน้องอีกหรือเปล่า เดี๋ยวดูก่อน ก็มีติดต่อมาเป็นครอบครัว ส่วนมากจะมีปัญหาเรื่องคิวยาก อย่างวันนี้รับงานมา ก็ไม่รู้ว่าน้องจะเป็นยังไง แต่ก็รู้ว่าน้องโอเค ก็รับได้อีกค่ะ (หัวเราะ) ก่อนหน้านี้เรากลัวว่าถ้าน้องเจอคนเยอะๆ จะเป็นยังไง ตอนนี้หายกลัวแล้วค่ะ”

งานละครก็มีคุยอยู่แต่ยังไม่สรุป พร้อมย้ำไม่มีแพลนปั้มคนที่สองต่อ ขอทำงานก่อน

“ละครยังไม่มีค่ะ แต่ก็มีเข้ามาคุยบ้าง ก็ดูบทอยู่ แต่ยังไม่ได้สรุปอะไรสักอย่าง ไม่นานนี้ แต่คิดว่าปีนี้คงมีอะไรให้ดูแน่นอนค่ะ ส่วนเรื่องทายาทคนที่ 2 คงพักไว้ก่อน ขอทำงานก่อนค่ะ ขออีกซักปี 2 ปีก่อนค่ะ”
